'Starfish Totemic' 2020/21


*Please read the description entirely as this is a one-of-a-kind sculpture, unlike others listed on my Website Storefront.

*Note: this sculpture is darker in tonal contrast than photography can record, especially when recording copper surfaces that have patina applications (have been darkened, leaving the semi-refractive nature of copper intact when exposed to photography lighting and the camera's eye's interpretations).

Unlike all the sculptures on my Website Store, this is an actual original sculpture encased in a real copper-skin. The starfish base is solid pewter, cast from a mold I made of an actual starfish, on which I sculpted an original, wax sculpture (there is no mold of this sculpture/this is an original. I then spray coated the entire sculpture with a conductive material and placed it into an electroplating-process at high amperage. The resulting coral growths
are a result of that high amp environment and time-lapse period in the copper-ion solution.

So, what we have here is an actual wax sculpture encased in copper with a custom patina and sealed with an archival coating (it will not tarnish: for indoor or enclosed patio display.) The copper-coral-nodes are semi-fragile, so, a special packaging method and shipping will be initiated.
